I believe in our Gods as archtypes in our blood, as symbols of right and wrong, as historical persons, as extraterrestial beings, as forces in nature and as physical forms which to this day still exist.
We all know that Thorr is the protector of our race, the one who makes our existence possible. It is Thorr which protects us against all the uncontrollable forces in nature. This I mean literally. That a physical Thorr is protecting us from the uncontrollable forces of the universe.
Look at the planet Jupiter (the Roman name for Thorr). It is Jupiter which, with its gravitation, prevents meteorites from hitting our Mother Earth and from wiping out all life here. Jupiter - Thorr - is red as his beard, and around it there is a belt - Meginjord? Around Jupiter sixteen moons circle - that is the exact number of sons that Thorr has in some myths.
If this was a unique incident of what the connection with the planets of our solar system and our Gods is, then maybe we just could reject it as a coincident, but that is not the case. All the planets, together with the Sun (Sol), fit into a system. We can discover the age of the Gods by looking at the size of the planets/star; the Sun is the biggest and oldes, while Pluto (Hel) is smallest and youngest. Only Mars (Tyr) is the exception here - because he has gotten his growth inhibited by an event. Then I can only remind the readers of the myth which tells us how Tyr was maimed when the Gods were going to tame Fenriz (the wolf)- a coincident?
The planets albedo (not sure about this word - ED), the planets "gratefullness"; the ability to give back the amount of light you get, the ability to love as one is loved, is quite in harmony with the impression our mythology gives us of the Gods. Merkur (Loki), the emotionless, has an albedo of 0.1 (i.ex. only 10% of the light is reflected), while Venus (Frigg), the Lovegoddess, has an albedo of 0.76 (76% - ED). The Wargod, Tyr, has an albedo of 0.16, Mother Earth has an albedo of 0.39, the Moon (Maani) - 0.06, Jupiter (Thorr) - 0.51, Saturn (Heimdallr) - 0.61, Uranus (Odinn) and Neptune (Njordr) - 0.35 and Plut (Hel) has an albedo of 0.4.
Neptune (Njordr) has two moons (actually more smaller ones where discovered - ED) - Nereid and Triton. In the mythology Njordr has two children: Frøyja and Frøyr. Uranus (Odinn) has fifteen moons - in the mythology Odin has fifteen sons. Mars (Tyr) has two moons and Saturn (Heimdallr) has thirteen moons, but here our mythological knowledge ends. Maybe Thorrs stepson, Ullr, is one of Tyrs sons, this we do not know, the christians killed they who knew, murdered they who wanted to know and burnt our sacrets. Only pieces of the pasts knowledge exists today.
But this is not all: We can also see how much the Gods are open for emotions by looking at the planets. Merkurs' (Lokis) equator inclination from the cource (equatorangle I think - ED) is 0 degrees. As we know Loki is emotionless; he did not cry when he Gods asked everything to cry so Hel would let Balder home to Aasgard. Venus' (Friggs) equator inclination (...) is at 177 degrees! Of course the Lovegodess is open for emotions. The following planets equator inclination to the course is: Tellus (that is Earth - ED) 23.27, Mars 23.59, Jupiter 3.5, Saturn 26.44, Uranus 97.55, Neptune 28.48 and Pluto 52 or 122 degrees - all depending on the choice of astronomy book.
Thorr is most likely so little open for emotions because of his lacking intelligence, while Odinn is open for emotions because he is the Leader/Chieftain; the one who cares about his folk and its destiny! At the same time we know that Odinn often is an ungratefull God; we can sacrifice everything for him and the only thing he repays us with is loss and treason, death and poverty. Thus the low albedo.
I mentioned Thorrs belt, Meginjord - the ring around Jupiter. Other planets have rings roo. Saturn (Heimdallr) has five wide ones (which are built up of nearly thousand smaller ones), which origin and function is unknown to me still. Uranus (Odinn) has nine or eleven, depending on the book. We all know the story of Draupnir, the ring which drips eight new ones every ninth night. Maybe the myth was born at a time when there only was eight rings around Uranus - or before the ninth one was discovered?
Neptune (Njordr) has two rings, but origin and purpose is unknown today.
This is also a form of Asatru, which should be put under serious astrological research. We might be able to learn more of reality - of our origin and thus future - by studying the planets as the physical manifistations of the Gods. The Gods have many faces and one thing is certain. All of them are meant to help us in our journey towards Aasgard! Heil Odinn!
